Online Consult

North Glen Medical Practice would like to inform all our patients that from Wednesday 22nd July 2020, we will be commencing a 3 month trial of a new online system called Online Consult. This is a change to the way patients access healthcare presently at the practice.

Online Consult makes asking for help from your GP practice easier and for many patients is more convenient. You will be able to send a request on any medical matter directly and securely to the practice using the above Online Consult link. 

What are some of the benefits? You can access Online Consult 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from the comfort of your own home. All you need is either a mobile phone, tablet, iPad or PC/Laptop and connection to the internet. No more telephone queues, simply click the above link from 22nd July and this will take you to clinically approved healthcare information or to contact the practice about any health matter. One of our clinical staff will review the form and the practice will call you back with the advice you need or to make your appointment with you. 

You can also contact the practice to request repeat medication or even request a GP Fit Note. If you would like to request a medical letter from your GP, this can also be requested via Online Consult.

Online Consult forms will be reviewed by our clinicians Monday to Friday between 0830 and 1630 hours. From Wednesday 22nd July, Online Consult will be the preferred route to request both routine and same day GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Practitioner led Minor Ailment clinic appointments.

If you do not have access to the internet you can simply call us and select option 2 for appointments. A member of our team will take some details from you and you will receive a call back.

Please note all nursing appointments for treatment room services such as; cervical smears, dressings, bloods, stitch removal or regular injections remain the same and patients should telephone the practice as normal to make their appointment.

All of our registered patients are asked where possible to use this service. You can also use this service if you are a parent or carer of a patient. Please note, we may require to seek permission from a patient prior to discussing their medical information with you.

Online Consult - Patient Q&A's

Patients are reminded that Online Consult is for routine / same day NON EMERGENCY situations only. In the event of a medical emergency you should dial 999 immediately for an ambulance. Please note a shortness of breath and/or chest pain constitutes a medical emergency.

GP Telephone Consultations

A number of telephone consultation slots are available for patients to speak with a G.P. if they do not require a face-to-face consultation, e.g. to discuss results, medications or seek advice. When requesting a telephone consultation, our reception team will ask you what your call is concerning, this is for the following reasons;

  1. The G.P. is made aware in advance
  2. Some conditions may not be suitable for a telephone consultation and may require an appointment to be made for you to attend, i.e. a rash

How to book a Telephone Consultation

The majority of our telephone consultations can be pre-booked. To book a slot, please telephone the Practice appointment line on 01592 620062 and select option 2.  Please then ask our reception team for a telephone consultation. Our appointment lines are open at 8.30am, Monday to Friday. **Please note, if you have any call barring facility active on your telephone line, please ensure it is turned off / deactivated prior to any return call from a G.P. Call barring may make it difficult for the G.P. to get through.

How many consultations are available and how long is each consultation?

There are up to 4 telephone consultations available per G.P. and they are taken fairly quickly, so the earlier you can ring the Practice, the better chance you have of speaking with a G.P. Each consultation is allocated approximately 5 minutes per call, but as with normal consultations there may be times when this runs later.

How to cancel a Telephone Consultation

If you wish to cancel a telephone consultation, please telephone the Practice as soon as you are aware it is no longer needed.  There may be another patient who needs this consultation!

When will the G.P. call me?

The G.P. will usually call you back as near to your appointment time as possible.  However, if the G.P. is held up in surgery, they may not be able to call you until later.  If you are in any doubt, please call the Practice and ask the reception team for further details.

What happens if I have to go out?

If you require to go out prior to the G.P. calling, please contact the Practice and let our reception team know.  If you are out when the G.P. calls, you may unfortunately lose your appointment slot and will require to make contact with the Practice again.
