New! Online Appointments
A limited number of GP appointments only will be available to book online from Monday 1st October 2018 through Patient Access.
Patient Access allows our patients to not only book or cancel GP appointments, but also order repeat prescriptions online with ease. Patients must register with Patient Access to use this service and must have an active email address in order to register.
On booking an online appointment, patients will be able to enter a brief reason for the appointment. Please click on the below link.
Appointments can also be made in person or by telephoning (01592) 620062. You are free to attend any of the G.P's in the practice, although you may have to wait longer to see your preferred G.P.
North Glen offers the services of our Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Practitioners who all provide a comprehensive service including minor ailments and prescribing. Not every appointment requires a G.P. and patient's may not require to wait quite as long for an appointment if you are happy to be seen by our nursing team or Advanced Nurse Practitioner. In most cases, our Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Practitioners can help and will always refer to a G.P. if necessary.
Our Receptionists may ask a brief reason for your appointment
Our reception staff may ask you for a brief reason for your appointment. This is to ensure;
- Our patients are given the most appropriate medical care
- From the most appropriate healthcare professional
- At the most appropriate time
This information also allows;
- Our G.P.'s to priortise home visits and phone calls
- Direct patients to see an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Practitioner or other health care professional rather than a G.P. where appropriate
Our reception staff are bound strictly by confidentiality;
- Any information provided is treated respectfully and in the strictest confidence
- If you feel more comfortable, you can ask to speak with a receptionist in private away from the main reception area. If you feel an issue is very private this will always be respected
Arrangements for urgent cases
Our triage nurses have been fully trained to assess patient concerns. Our triage nurses will assess your symptoms and allocate an appointment or advise as necessary. They follow practice protocols and will always refer to a G.P. should you or they be concerned.
For all patients requiring URGENT/SAME DAY appointments or house calls. Triage hours are between 8.30 am and 11.00am daily. House calls requested out with these times are passed to the On call doctor.
How you can help us:
- Be on time for your appointment
- Tell us if you need to cancel
- Call for a home visit or urgent appointment before 10am
- Ring for test results after 1pm
GP Telephone Consultations
A number of telephone consultation slots are available for patients to speak with a G.P. if they do not require a face-to-face consultation, e.g. to discuss results, medications or seek advice. When requesting a telephone consultation, our reception team will ask you what your call is concerning, this is for the following reasons;
- The G.P. is made aware in advance
- Some conditions may not be suitable for a telephone consultation and may require an appointment to be made for you to attend, i.e. a rash
How to book a Telephone Consultation
The majority of our telephone consultations can be pre-booked. To book a slot, please telephone the Practice appointment line on 01592 620062 and select option 2. Please then ask our reception team for a telephone consultation. Our appointment lines are open at 8.30am, Monday to Friday. **Please note, if you have any call barring facility active on your telephone line, please ensure it is turned off / deactivated prior to any return call from a G.P. Call barring may make it difficult for the G.P. to get through.
How many consultations are available and how long is each consultation?
There are up to 4 telephone consultations available per G.P. and they are taken fairly quickly, so the earlier you can ring the Practice, the better chance you have of speaking with a G.P. Each consultation is allocated approximately 5 minutes per call, but as with normal consultations there may be times when this runs later.
How to cancel a Telephone Consultation
If you wish to cancel a telephone consultation, please telephone the Practice as soon as you are aware it is no longer needed. There may be another patient who needs this consultation!
When will the G.P. call me?
The G.P. will usually call you back as near to your appointment time as possible. However, if the G.P. is held up in surgery, they may not be able to call you until later. If you are in any doubt, please call the Practice and ask the reception team for further details.
What happens if I have to go out?
If you require to go out prior to the G.P. calling, please contact the Practice and let our reception team know. If you are out when the G.P. calls, you may unfortunately lose your appointment slot and will require to make contact with the Practice again.
